DODHA BURFI
Dodha burfi which is one of the most popular sweets in the country is known to have originated in Faridkot District and is a result of an experiment by Punjabi wrestler Harbans Vig in the 1900s. The story of its origin goes that, as the strong wrestler of his village Khushab of District Sargodha (Now in Pakistan), Lala Hans Raj Vig had been working on a diet that was both savoury and at the same time supplemented the energy needs for sportsmen. Cooking being his favourite pastime, the wrestler came up with the Dodha Burfi in the year 1912. His energy food tasted delicious. The sweet became such a rage, that the street which led to the sweet shop came to be known as Dodha Street. After the partition of India in 1947, the Dodha family moved to Kotkapura and later opened branches at Ludhiana, while its popularity kept growing in India and abroad. The recipe of the original shop, Royal Dhodha House is a closely guarded secret and is passed from generation to generation such that it tastes the same since a century.
